The University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge was formed in 1865 by amalgamating earlier collections of natural history in different departments and in the Cambridge Philosophical Society. The early collections of the University were assembled by William Clark, Professor of Anatomy from 1817 to 1865. The Superintendents of the Museum of Zoology in the 19th century were J.W.
